You ever notice that when a Holy man commands the powers they raise their arms and expose their palms?

Well look next time and you'll see them do it and that is because we release energy from the ends of our hands or our palms. 

This is used for grounding to place the palms pressed against the earth and release excess energy into the dirt or rock. 

This I believe to be in context to the handling and control exerted upon ones life especially considering the materials available to you. 

The basket is for the retaining and the palm and fist are for the control and application.
