Luna-Moon
You'll notice on the card before this one there was also a planet shown in the symbol at the upper right side of the card (Mercury) and on the one before that was another symbol
that was an element (Air) and not a planet. I've waited until this card to get into what a planetary influence is. Its not really that complicated.
Astrologers have used the concept of the planetary influence for a long time.
It's equate-able to a lot more than just astrology but I'm not getting that deep, yet.
Basically the different planets, like the constellations, each have qualities associated to them. Astronomy is something that evolved from astrology.
According to my research astrology predates astronomy by well over a thousand years with the occurrence of the telescope.
(Actually invented in the 1600's from a couple of kids playing around) Refined by lens crafter(s) then more defined by Galileo a year later.
Evidence of astrology (western tradition) can be dated back to as far as around four thousand years ago and in the Eastern traditions even farther.
Mentioned as an interesting point. At the time of your birth the planets (and constellations) were in a location somewhere around the planet earth.
It is thought (astrologically) that because of these locations at the exact time and place you were born that during the course of your life you'll be affected in relation to these
influences. This is where the idea of a horoscope comes from.
Astrology has been called the backward science because people (astrologers) that pay attention to occurrences concerning these details will see (and record) what has happened, on
a regular basis and determine from this what should happen by comparison due to the prior repetition of past occurrences.
Depending on where (and what time) you were born on earth determines (in astrology) how you're affected by the influences of the planets and constellations, every day for the rest
of your life.
There is a book, or books, and computer programs that actually have the record of the location of the planets (and constellations) in feet and inches from any given location on earth
(latitude and longitude) listing the day, the year and the time, minute by minute, for a two hundred to six thousand year period (depending on the book or program). This book is
called an ephemeris.
There are different kinds of ephemeris for astronomy and astrology.
One deals with the location of planets (astronomy) and one deals with the locations of constellations and stars (astrology).
Now that's complicated! I can go into the break downs of the angles of the planets and the aspects of those angles in relation to what planetary influences are involved, depending
on which planets are concerned, and which constellation they are in at a particular time, but then I'd be writing an entirely different book on and about astrology.
But to me what's important is the basic influence that's related to each of the planets, individually.
One detail, I personally find interesting, is that planets and constellations move opposite from each other, from our viewpoint here on earth.
But now in the concept of planetary influence each planet has a label on it for general reference to how it affects us as a species.
These labels will be mentioned here for your personal knowledge to have some clue in their associations and considered affects.
Even before the existence of telescopes astrologers had given associations (I call labels) to the planets. Which were thought to be seven, back then.
The nearest planet to us is, of course, the moon or Luna. Which has been labeled for the following list.
Habits, moods, memories, rhythms, menstrual periods, ovaries, your sub conscious, motherhood, nurturing are some of the main aspects that are considered Lunar aspects. Other
parts of the body are the ovaries, breasts, stomach and pancreas.
In Chinese astrology it is associated to the Yin (passive-female counterpart of the Yin Yang).
I shouldn't need to get into all of the relations of the moon in all of the cultures on the planet here in this book but I will address what applies to what area of the cards in relation to
the way that I have witnessed things work effectively and will do my best not to miss anything.
But with the millions of connotations concerning the moon throughout the centuries I need to keep to the points made within the reasoning concerned as there are many known
ways of using the Lunar aspects during incantations and exercises, rituals, enchantments and more that, for me is like opening a drawer to find a hammer and seeing a thousand
tools in the drawer and I need to stick to the hammer or I will be looking in the drawer for days.
Here my point is that there are many potent ways of using the energies of the moon while it is either waxing or waning and there are vast
multitudes of rituals that are accomplished by which Lunar phase we are in at the time.
The effective workings I have found using the moon will show as the book progresses and the grounding and energizing properties that are
stated to be usable by the practitioner of magic are varied and different in effect determined by the amounts of training and practice not to
mention the natural make up of the person applying the knowledge.
