Juniper, Pennyroyal
Throughout this chapter you'll notice the obvious female relations that crop up on a very regular basis.
Bear in mind that the associations that are given in this work go back thousands of years and are, by today's standards considered sexist in many ways and it's really an important
issue, also, within this chapter. The concept itself of sexism is a separation of male from female when the actual component that is so vital to this area is the combination, union and
balance of the male to female aspect within the self. It's well documented that we all start out, in the fetal form, as female.
Then after the genetic process kicks in and the development of testicles occurs (or not) we're born and labeled as a male or female.
This is known to have been an issue and studied in the days of Aristotle around 2300 years ago. Although his views were that the heat of the sperm determined the sex (hot for male,
cool for female). Good thing we've advanced to the point of differentiating chromosomes.
I mention this here because the union of the natures is an issue of vital importance in the balance of any person. The balance.
Not being too much of this or too much of that but the balance of this and that. How clear can I get?
Pennyroyal: This plant has been used for centuries to cause abortions and is quite dangerous. It's poisonous and it shouldn't be taken in large doses, it will cause death.
For centuries it was used to cure ailments of the stomach and has been used for aromatherapy dealing with lung problems and also has been used in small doses as a remedy for
tumors. Very dangerous to pregnant women any drug that has pennyroyal within its properties carries a warning (by the FDA, Federal Drug Administration, in the USA) for women
that are pregnant. It has a very strong spearmint scent that has been used to resuscitate fainting victims.
The ancient Greeks were known to have used it to flavor their wines. But it's also known to cause damage to the liver and cause increased blood flow to the uterus.
So it was used also as both a female contraceptive and also for the induction of abortions.
Used as a bath additive and also an insect repellant the essential oils are dangerous to pets and shouldn't be used for the repelling of fleas and ticks directly upon the animals skin
because it can kill your pet.
Pennyroyal was used as a spice, in food preparation by both the ancient Romans and Greeks but in very small amounts, like oregano and much like peppermint, were considered to
cure indigestion and stomach problems but later in history its use was discontinued. Then later mentioned as being used in the Middle Ages for these same purposes.
Women have used pennyroyal tea to perform self-induced abortions and this is a very dangerous practice and not advised. Due to the fact, once again, that it can and will, kill you.
Juniper: The Junipers are of the cypress family there are between 50-67 species of juniper, widely distributed throughout the northern hemisphere, from the Arctic, south to tropical
Africa in the Old World , and to the mountains of Central America.
Used also in the flavor of liquor and known as a primary ingredient for Gin and actually responsible for the name Gin itself, derived from the Dutch name for Juniper -Genever.
There's a Finnish beer that's still distilled today that uses the Juniper berry along with or instead of hops, known as Sahti-beer.
There's evidence that as far back as prehistoric times people colonized near the Juniper forests and groves for the use of the plants essentials in tools, food, shelter, fuel and medicinal
qualities. It's bark and berries can be boiled into a tea that has been known to treat urinary tract infections for centuries by a great assortment of cultures.
The Juniper was used as one of the well-known Bonsai types of trees stemming from China and Japan and noted in Egyptian culture as far back as 6000 years ago.
The word actually means a tree (or plant) grown in a container. From the Chinese word penzai and evolving from there.
Junipers berries have been used to make a sauce that accompanies a lot of different meals of the past and present to flavor the meats of a wide number of animals that are commonly
associated with a gamey taste such as rabbit, quail, pheasant, to name only a few.
It's been used by the American Indians for the treatment of urinary tract infections and also for the treatment of diabetes.
It's been found that the basic properties of the Juniper will stimulate the release of insulin from the fat cells in the body and balance blood sugars.
Also used by the American Indian as both a female contraceptive and to speed the birthing process and, depending on the timing also used for self-induced abortions.
As mentioned earlier any form of self-induced abortion can kill the fetus and the mother and is NOT advised in this book.
