Emerald, Turquoise

photographs to be added

Emerald: Green and clear, it is mined all over the world and has been for many centuries.

The color is created by yellow and blue saturation seeping into a clearer hexagonal crystal formation the green hue of an emerald is created when the two colors meet and mix.

If the crystal forming in the rock has either too much yellow or blue it is given a different name but the whole lot of it is called beryl.

The darker the green the greater it's value.

The lighter ones are cut and sold as beryl, well actually emerald is a green beryl and aquamarine is a bluer beryl and they have different values and prices assigned to them.

Some grow in the form of a six-spoke wheel.

These are rare and they are given the name trapiche emerald and are, of course more expensive.

Powers associated to emeralds are love, psychic vision, exorcism, increased mental capacity, fertility, luck and fortune.

It's been recorded in early history, that staring into an emerald can give visions of past present and future events.

Emerald is a traditional precious birthstone for the month of May (Emerald also shows in June as semi-precious next to pearl as precious.)

Turquoise: This is probably the oldest gemstone mined in recorded history.

The Egyptians had a mine for turquoise back 5000 years ago and it is still in operation today, located near the Sinai Peninsula.

The name comes as an association to the Turkish people.

It has long been worn by royalty but also has been associated to friendship and luck, fortune, love and protection.

It is sacred to some American Indian tribes and its carved figurines are still used for protection luck and love, friendship, healing and to avoid accidents are other associations to this

stone also.

Turquoise is a modern precious birthstone for December (traditional is ruby.) Also tanzanite and blue topaz in December.
